Newtown

Where mail order began, still making things.

Newtown is the biggest town in Powys, on the Severn in the middle of Wales. It's where Robert Owen was born and where Pryce Jones started selling Welsh flannel by post from the Royal Welsh Warehouse, the beginnings of mail order. Today it's a working town with manufacturers, offices, shops and Theatr Hafren.

I'm in Barmouth, about an hour and a quarter away, so I can come and see you in person.

Search

Who's searching in Newtown.

Newtown makes things. The business parks on the edge of town hold manufacturers and engineering firms that sell all over the UK and beyond, and most of their buyers have never been to Powys. They find suppliers online, check what they can make and to what standard, and send an enquiry only if the website gives them confidence.

The town centre serves a big rural catchment, from Llanidloes to the Shropshire border, with shops, cafés, trades and services. Those customers are local and loyal, and they still look up opening times, prices and phone numbers before they come in.

Newtown's employers also compete for staff. A clear careers page, with what it's like to work there and what's on offer, helps a firm in mid Wales hire people who'd otherwise only look in the big cities.

Why most Newtown sites don’t bring work

What should a website actually do for you?

It's 2026. Customers expect you to have a website, and they judge you by it. Yet most small businesses see theirs as a cost that never pays back. When someone lands on your site, it has three jobs, in this order.

A visitor lands From Google, a recommendation or your van. You have seconds.
1
Say what you fixPeople rarely want to read about a service. They want to know what problem you solve for them, in the simplest terms.
2
Earn their trustBefore they get in touch, people look for reviews and examples of your work. That's the cost of entry.
3
Make the next step obviousClear calls to action for whatever matters to you: booking an appointment, a viewing or an enquiry.
New enquiry A call, a booking or a message, landing with you.

Get these three right and your website starts bringing in work.

Every site I build is planned around your business and its goal. Not a template with your logo on.

FAQ

Questions from Newtown businesses.

Something else on your mind? Ask me directly.

We sell to other businesses, not the public. Do we still need a good website?

More than most. Buyers check a supplier online before they ever ring, and they want to see what you make, what you can handle and who you've worked for. A clear site wins enquiries that a catalogue on a trade directory doesn't.

Can the site help us recruit?

Yes. A careers page with real photos of the place, what the jobs involve and how to apply gives people a reason to choose you over a firm in Shrewsbury or Telford.

Newtown started mail order. Can I sell online through my site?

For a small range, yes: a simple way to order and pay online built into the site. For a big catalogue, I'll tell you honestly if a dedicated shop platform would suit you better.

Do you work with businesses in Newtown?

Yes. I'm based in Barmouth and work with businesses in Newtown, Llanidloes, Tregynon and Kerry. I'll come to you.

Can you take over my existing site?

Often, yes. Send me the link and I'll tell you honestly whether it's worth keeping or starting fresh.

Danny at Wild Origines is so good that part of me wants to keep him a secret, but he deserves every bit of this review.

We’ve worked closely together to bring my company template and redevelop my current website, as well as effectively another new company website, and he’s been fantastic throughout. He’s worked all hours, taken the time to explain everything clearly, and consistently gone above and beyond. We’ve built a great relationship, and he’s been an absolute dream to work with.

What really sets Danny apart is his ability to think outside the box and create beautiful features that work brilliantly. He understands our philosophy while bringing sound business judgement, alongside expertise in AI and systems. It’s the perfect blend, and everything you could want in a web developer and far more.

Saying I wouldn’t hesitate to use Danny again doesn’t quite cover it. As long as he’s building websites, I won’t be going anywhere else. We’re already looking at other projects together, which probably says it all. I'd also recommend him to everyone and anyone who needs his services.

The website that Danny at Wild Origins has created for my business is far superior to the one I'd had before.

I'm absolutely thrilled with the design and he has showed great patience. Taking the time to understanding my vision and paying attention to all the details I wanted. He's been absolutely brilliant, and honestly can't recommend him enough. The evening my new website went live, I gained two new clients instantly!

We’re really happy with our new website!

A big thank you to Danny for making the whole process so easy and straightforward. He was friendly, helpful, and great to work with from start to finish. Nothing was too much trouble, and we’re really pleased with the end result. Would definitely recommend Danny to anyone looking for a new website!
